Bertie was hospitalised for two weeks last year before eventually being diagnosed with IBD. We were advised to place him on a vet-recommended hydrolysed diet, which he really wasn't keen on.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease, more commonly known as IBD is a chronic condition that causes irritation and inflammation in your dog's gastro intestines and consequently cellular inflammation throughout the whole body. It can make digesting food difficult and causes uncomfortable symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss and painful, gassy tummies. Less common symptoms can include eating grass or soil, food and environmental intolerances, poor immune system, coprophagia, and behavioural issues.

IBD dogs often have multifactorial issues and ensuring individualisation of diet and nutraceutical support is vital to be able to heal the gut. The wonderful thing is that IBD is curable! Something many owners are not told, however, the road ahead isn’t always easy. Dogs with IBD may struggle to absorb all the nutrients from a complete and balanced diet due to dysbiosis and inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract. Finding the right diet to stabilise your dog is essential to reducing symptoms and making your dog feel much more comfortable in themselves. Once stabilised it is vitally important to increase dietary diversity in IBD dogs to support their healing microbiome.

For dogs with IBD, it’s important not to overload the gut, as it will cause more inflammation and possible intolerances, so we recommend changing their diet very slowly and choosing just one or two proteins to start with, while always using probiotics for added support.

This recipe is ideal for dogs who require a low-fat diet as it is cooked with lean turkey breast and is gently hand-cooked with red cabbage, carrots and high-fibre apples. We've also added squash and chia seeds to help aid digestion and improve gut health.

Excellent product and my dog loves it. We struggled to find a diet that would suit a dog with IBD, Bronchitis and chronic pancreatitis; she was on a homemade diet prescribed by a pet nutritionist but suffered from ongoing intolerances.
