How Different Dog will be supporting Mental Health Awareness week 18-24 May.

Monday 18th. May sees the start of Mental Health Awareness Week which is organised by the Mental Health Foundation. During the week, a campaign which reaches millions of people each year raises awareness on a number of topics in relation to mental health conditions. It also raises money to fund projects that help people cope with stress, anxiety, depression and the issues surrounding them.

This year’s theme is kindness which is something that we have all seen through the recent Coronavirus pandemic. We have learnt that amid the fear, there is also community, support and hope and the added benefit of helping others is that it is good for our own mental health and wellbeing.

At Different Dog we also want to celebrate the kindness of our pets and the role that they play in our own wellbeing. Animals such as dogs are great facilitators; the connection they develop with their owners, coupled with exercise, getting outdoors and socialising with other pet owners, offer great benefit and have helped many people during the recent Covid 19 lockdown to cope.

During Mental Health Awareness Week Different Dog will be running a number of initiatives. Firstly, we will be holding a Facebook competition to win a hamper of our tasty natural home-cooked recipes for your dog and a comfort box for humans from the Cosy Chocolate Company. This contains tasty food items produced by members of the Worcestershire Food & Drink Association thus allowing us to promote small local producers who during this crisis have been unable to attend farm markets.

We will also be highlighting the work of the Pets at Therapy charity which is a national charity founded in 1983 by Lesley Scott-Ordish They enhance health and wellbeing in the community through the visits of trusted volunteers with their behaviourally assessed animals. They provide a visiting service in hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues all across the UK.

Finally, we will be introducing to you members of the Different Dog team and their dogs on our Facebook page and we will also be donating a percentage of the sale of our hampers to the Pets at Therapy charity and the Mental Health Foundation until the end of May.
